Security forces shot dead a man who seized a soldier’s gun at Paris Orly airport on Saturday and a police officer was shot and injured in a separate incident north of the French capital, the French Interior Ministry said.
A bomb sweep was under way at the airport to make sure the dead man was not wearing an explosive belt, Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said.
Witnesses said the Orly south terminal was evacuated following the shooting at around 8:30am local time (07:30 GMT) on Saturday.
“A man took a weapon from a soldier then hid in a shop in the airport before being shot dead by security forces,” Brandet said.
The man who attempted to take the gun was the sole victim; no other person was injured in the incident.
Bruno Le Roux, French interior minister, is due to visit the facility, located in Paris’ southern outskirts.
