Houthi rebels detain two Saudi soldiers hostage in Yemen

Two Saudi soldiers fighting with the Arab coalition in Yemen have been detained by Houthi rebels, coalition spokesman Ahmed Asseri said.

“They are detainees and not hostages,” Asseri said.
“They lost their way inside Yemeni territory.”

The spokesman did not say when or where inside Yemen the incident took place.

Three other Saudi soldiers are missing, Asseri said.

Saudi Arabia is leading a military campaign with Arab allies against Shiite Houthis rebels in Yemen.

The Saudis say they want to restore the Yemeni government, which was kicked out of the capital by the rebels earlier this year.

The war in Yemen has raged for over six months and has left nearly 5,000 people dead — including
2,000 civilians, according the United Nations and rights groups.
